Ambush
Stealth · Free browser game
How to play Ambush
You are crouched behind a parked car at the roadside with a bucket of tomatoes. Holding raises your head above the roofline so you can aim, and releasing throws. The catch is that your head is only visible — and only catchable — while you are up. Passers-by glance your way on their own schedule, telegraphed first by a question mark and then by an exclamation mark, and being caught above the roofline costs a life. You have three. Ducking is faster than rising, so a quick release will save you if you read the warning in time.
Controls
- Hold anywhere to peek up and aim, then release to throw
- Space or the Up arrow do the same on a keyboard
- Tap the speaker icon to mute
Tips
- Watch for the "?" — it is your warning that someone is about to look. The "!" is too late.
- Duck speed is faster than peek speed, so releasing early almost always gets you back under cover.
- Consecutive hits build a combo, so hold out for a clear window rather than throwing into a crowded street.
- The game holds off new glances once the street goes quiet, so there is always a genuine throwing window.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Ambush free to play?
- Yes, it plays in the browser with no download or sign-up.
- How many lives do I get?
- Three. You lose one each time somebody catches you with your head above the roofline.
- Can I be caught while crouched?
- No. You are only catchable while you are peeking up, which is exactly when you can aim and throw.
