How to play Pileup
Neon blocks rain down into a shaft and lock into a growing pile. A falling block crushes you instantly, so you dodge — but once a block lands it becomes the only solid ground there is, and lava is rising from below. That is the tension: the thing trying to kill you is also the thing you have to climb. Every falling block projects a pulsing outline showing exactly where and in what shape it will land, so you always get a warning. Your score is the height you reach, measured in cells.
Controls
- On-screen ◀ ▶ buttons at the bottom-left to move
- JUMP button at the bottom-right — it is multitouch, so you can run and jump together
- Keyboard: arrow keys or A / D to move, Space, W or the Up arrow to jump
- Tap the speaker icon in the top-right corner to mute
Tips
- Read the ghost outline. It shows the exact shape and landing column while the block is still off-screen.
- Your jump clears a little over two cells, and the spawner keeps the surface even enough that there is always a route up.
- Your hitbox is narrower than a column, so you can slip between stacks to escape a bad spot.
- Release the jump button early for a short hop. Variable jump height matters when threading gaps.
- Do not linger to farm a safe ledge. Lava accelerates with height and time.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Pileup free to play?
- Yes, it runs in the browser with no download or account.
- How is the score calculated?
- Your score is the maximum height you climb, counted in grid cells. Your best is saved in your browser.
- Can I stand on a block while it is still falling?
- No. Falling blocks are pure hazards and crush you on contact. They only become solid ground once they lock into the pile.
