How to play Whirl
You steer a glowing comet through a scrolling cave of energy gates using one input. Holding fires the thruster and the comet climbs; releasing lets gravity pull it down. That is the whole control scheme, and it is deliberately impossible to park: thrust is set a little more than twice gravity, so a sustained hold will fly you into the ceiling. Each gate you thread scores a point, the walls scroll faster with every gate, and the gap keeps narrowing. The ceiling and the floor are just as lethal as the walls.
Controls
- Hold anywhere on the screen to thrust upward
- Release to fall
- Space or the Up arrow work the same way on a keyboard
- Tap the speaker icon in the top-right corner to mute
Tips
- Fly in short taps rather than long holds — small corrections keep the comet near the middle of the gap.
- Aim for the centre of the next gap, not the edge you are closest to. The gap shrinks as you score.
- A wall is only dangerous while the comet’s centre is over it, so the instant you clear a gate you are safe.
- The floor and ceiling kill you too. Panic-holding at the top is the most common way runs end.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Whirl free to play?
- Yes. Whirl runs in the browser with no download, install or account.
- Why can I not just hold to hover?
- By design. Thrust is stronger than gravity, so holding always climbs into the ceiling. You have to alternate, which is what makes the control interesting.
- Does Whirl work on a phone?
- Yes. It is a one-touch game built portrait-first for phones, and it also plays with a keyboard on desktop.
